Sean Parker’s Airtime and Social Discovery

Have you tried the new app. from Napster founder Sean Parker yet? There’s been a bit of buzz this week on the product. Some, that have mentioned various bugs.

Still, the notion that I see as important here is the element of social discovery, which according to the SF Gate, “in the past year, the category has come to broadly encompass ways to use Facebook or other social-networking services to serendipitously learn about new music, TV shows, food, concerts or news stories.”

Airtime is looking to empower users to connect with people beyond their Facebook friends, to easily set-up video discussions between users with common interests or in the same location (or both).

Can you envision yourself enabling video chat with people you don’t know, but share similar interests with?
