Attract and retain customers with Frequent, Authentic, Relevant, and Engaging content
The primary measurement, and often most desired initial outcome, of content and social marketing that reveals audience engagement, is content “shares”, or “Re-Tweets” in the case of Twitter. But what is the anatomy of the perfect Tweet?
How, as a social and content marketer do you create content that is most likely to be shared and re-tweeted? What can you do to boost content sharing in social media?
Cynthia Boris, a blogger at Andy Beal’s Marketing Pilgrim revealed a new study from researchers at UCLA and Hewlett-Packard’s HP Labs that looked to determine the formula for the perfect Tweet. According to Boris, the researchers:
“…started with over 40,000 recently published online articles, then matched that data with corresponding Tweets, then let it all flow through for 4 days to get the full lifecycle of any given Tweet.
Then, they sorted all the data based on four options: the source of the news, the news category, the emotional connection and name-dropping.
What they ended up with was an algorithm that allowed them to predict the popularity of a Tweet, prior to sending it out, with 84% accuracy.”
You can checkout the math and algorithms at full Boris’ post here. The key takeaway is what is most revealing:
“In the end, all this data and all these numbers point to the fact that a trusted source is the key to Re-Tweet success. Not the most well-known source, or the biggest source, or the one with the most power, but the one that people trust to give them the straight scoop”
Of course, this study was limited to Twitter. But the same results would likely be shown across other social networks. That means, to boost the chances your content will be shared and re-tweeted, work on increasing your trust factor.
